AlterCOP is an independent, global movement to complement COPs
As we prepare for COP17 on Nature and COP31 on Climate in 2026, we remain committed to one simple idea:

“We cannot fly the whole of humanity to COPs but we can bring COPs discussions to every city and country”
Anne Langourieux, Co-founder of AlterCOP
AlterCOP bridges the gap between global COP proceedings and local organisations, corporations and communities.
Founded in Singapore in 2024, AlterCOP was created to make climate, biodiversity and sustainability conversations more accessible, actionable and locally relevant. By bringing together businesses, policymakers, NGOs, educators, youth and citizens, we empower individuals to share knowledge, forge meaningful alliances, and spark tangible environmental action within their own spheres of influence.

While our journey began in Singapore, AlterCOP has always been global in spirit. We believe that a sustainable and flourishing future requires both international collaboration and solutions rooted in local realities.
From 5 countries in 2024 to 10 countries in 2025, AlterCOP continues to grow through a network of local partners, volunteers and communities committed to accelerating positive change.
The Story Behind
Its purpose remains simple: to help turn global ambition into local real action.

What began as a series of post-COP gatherings evolved into AlterCOP in 2024 – a volunteer-powered movement designed to connect global conversations with local action to empower all.
Today, AlterCOP brings together businesses, policymakers, NGOs, educators, youth and citizens to share knowledge, showcase tangible solutions ready to be scaled, build partnerships and accelerate change within their own spheres of influence.

“AlterCOP is not a protest; it is a forum for mindful optimism and unwavering quench for impact”
Thibault Meurgue-Guyard, Co-founder of AlterCOP
AlterCOP started with a simple idea: make COP conversations more accessible without flying the whole of humanity to a different city every year to help accelerate the change towards sustainability.
After years of hosting post-COP discussions with The Matcha Initiative following COP26, COP27 and COP28, Anne Langourieux and Thibaut Meurgue-Guyard recognised a growing need to bring global sustainability conversations closer to local communities, organisations and decision-makers.

What started in Singapore has grown into a global, volunteer-powered movement.
Since its launch in 2024, AlterCOP has expanded across multiple countries, bringing together communities, organisations and changemakers around a shared mission: accelerating local action on global sustainability challenges.
A Global Movement
How We Operate
AlterCOP is built on trust, local ownership and shared purpose.
While every chapter is unique, all chapters are connected through a common mission, vision and set of principles that guide the movement.
Every chapter is led by a dedicated local Core Team responsible for organising and stewarding the initiative within its community.
These teams help ensure that each edition remains locally relevant while staying aligned with AlterCOP's shared mission and values.
Local Core Teams
We trust local expertise.
Each AlterCOP chapter has the freedom to curate its own programme, select its speakers and design experiences that reflect local realities and priorities.
Local Autonomy

At the heart of AlterCOP are the volunteers who dedicate their time, expertise and passion to making each edition possible.
We embrace the natural evolution of volunteer communities and design our systems to remain resilient, collaborative and welcoming as teams grow and change over time.
Volunteer-Powered
AlterCOP chapters can be organised by volunteer teams, non-profit organisations, educational institutions or other local partners.
Our model is intentionally flexible, allowing each chapter to adapt to its local context while contributing to a global movement.
Flexible by Design

As AlterCOP continues to grow, our commitment remains the same: volunteer powered, locally grounded, globally connected.
