The Role of Article 6 in Carbon Markets

Singapore has pledged to cut its emissions by 30% by 2035 and to reach net zero by 2050, but this is tough given its small land area and energy-heavy economy. Under the Paris Agreement’s Article 6, it can also support climate projects overseas, where the same investment can achieve bigger results—for example, one tonne cut at home could mean three in Ghana. This session will explore how such partnerships work and how Singapore’s approach compares with other countries and international systems.

VCM Investments 101

Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) has witnessed different modes of investments viz., direct project finance, long term credit procurement, or fund vehicles. This MasterClass will discuss opportunities and risks in VCM investments and cover key value drivers leveraging investment — credit type, standards, verification, and co-benefits—alongside risks such as permanence, additionality, and regulation. Participants will also explore innovations like securitization, tokenization, and digital registries, and see case examples of capital flows into nature-based solutions, carbon removals, and blended finance.

SINGAPORE'S CARBON MARKET AMBITIONS - POLICY, FINANCE, ECOSYSTEMS AND BEYOND

Singapore has an ambitious agenda to become a leading hub for carbon market activity, through building a comprehensive ecosystem for carbon services, developing a transparent and high-integrity market, and developing partnerships with other countries to trade carbon credits. This session will dive into Singapore's activities at the policy level, both domestically and internationally, how Singapore as a global financial hub is poised to support a growing carbon market, and what kinds of carbon projects Singapore is supporting.
