Situationer - Climate Change Philippine Context (PhilCCA second cycle)

Drawing from the second cycle of the Philippine Climate Change Assessment (PhilCCA), this keynote provides a comprehensive, science-based overview of the country’s climate risks, vulnerabilities, and opportunities. Anchored on the three Working Groups of the PhilCCA, the session presents: (I) the physical science basis of observed and projected climate trends in the Philippines, (II) the impacts, adaptation, and vulnerabilities of communities, ecosystems, and key sectors, and (III) the pathways for mitigation and low-carbon transition. By weaving together the findings of these three dimensions, the keynote grounds AlterCOP in the latest national evidence base, enabling discussions that are both policy-relevant and practice-oriented.

Greenhouse Gas Accounting

Understanding one’s direct impact to climate change calls for the need to know how much greenhouse gas emissions are generated, identified, measured, calculated, and reported. In this masterclass session, we will be working on the basics of greenhouse gas accounting and reporting, and how it can be applied from an individual perspective to large organisations.

The Action Triangle

The Action Triangle is a collaborative tool to overcome fragmented and accountability gaps in climate action by providing a shared responsibility framework where citizens, businesses, and government work/act as co-actors who each commit to action while enabling one another. Participants map best practices, gaps, and opportunities, build bridges across citizens, business, and government, and commit to collaborative actions for collective impact. These commitments converge into a Knowledge Hub (sharing insights), a Network of Practice (cross-sector partnerships), and Financing Pathways (access to grants, CSR, loans, bonds, blended finance, and carbon markets).

How Stakeholders Can Better Align with Climate-Related Impacts for Action

This masterclass session provides an overview on how climate change impacts organizations and communities from the perspective of risks and opportunities, and how they can align better towards decarbonization and eventual net zero commitments in terms of governance structures, strategies that address climate-related topics across an organization, identifying and addressing risks and opportunities related to climate change, and how to measure the company’s performance in addressing climate-related concerns. Though the alignments are based on private sector-related frameworks, the masterclass will also touch on how government and civil society can also create similar alignments including alignments to local climate change planning and the beginnings of a just transition idea for organizations.

Nature-positive and Health Resilient Systems - Co-Organized by Philippine Society of Public Health Physicians (PSPHP)

Acting on climate change and health is not a cost but an investment in a healthier and safer future. The 26th Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change recognized that the raise in 1.5 °C will result in catastrophic health impacts including climate change-related deaths. Furthermore, the climate crisis will undo the gains in development, health, and poverty and widen existing inequalities. In response, COP recommended 10 priority actions placing health and equity at the center of climate policies and actions to protect human health from climate change, while leveraging health benefits to drive ambitious climate action. This two (2) hour session will specifically aim to tackle recommendations on harnessing health benefits of climate action, protecting and restoring nature as a foundation of our health, and financing a healthier, fairer and green future.
