Drawing on 6,100+ participants across 10 countries, Asia-Pacific's largest alternative COP forum highlights a critical reality that unlocking climate progress requires shifting financial risk appetite as technology is no longer the bottleneck.

SINGAPORE, 17 MARCH 2026 – AlterCOP released its AlterCOP 30 Insights Report today, a comprehensive account of findings from its flagship climate forum held across Singapore and nine international chapters parallel to COP30 in Belém. The report documents a decisive shift from optimism to realism in how climate leaders, scientists, and practitioners are framing the path forward.

"We cannot design the road ahead with a stable geopolitical world or a stable climate in mind, because neither truly exists anymore. Realism, resilience, and delivery must now guide our next phase of action." said jointly by Anne Langourieux & Thibaut Meurgue-Guyard, AlterCOP Co-Founders, in the report. With the world currently heading towards a 2.8 to 3°C temperature increase, climate scientists are openly acknowledging overshoot as our present reality rather than a future risk. The AlterCOP 30 Insights Report urges climate adaptation, resilience, and nature-based solutions to be seen as central pillars of global climate strategy instead of secondary concerns.

FIVE KEY FINDINGS FROM ALTERCOP 30

  1. Capital, Not Technology, Is The Real Bottleneck. Across energy, carbon markets, and nature-based solutions, the exact same constraint emerged: the cost of capital. Southeast Asia holds enormous renewable potential, yet adoption remains under 10% in most national power mixes. This gap exists not because solutions are missing, but because perceived risk is priced entirely too high. Emerging markets could unlock US$150 billion in annual savings if the cost of capital falls by just one percentage point.

  2. Systems Must Be Redesigned, Not Retrofitted. Linear and siloed systems are failing under climate stress. Cities must be fundamentally designed for heat, water, and life, especially given that 1.6 billion people are projected to face extreme heat and 800 million will be at risk from rising sea-levels by 2050. Fortunately, design-led and systemic approaches are steadily moving from theory into actionable policy.

  3. Nature Is Foundational Infrastructure. Nature underpins an estimated US$44 trillion of the global economic value, yet nature is still treated as a zero-value asset as evidenced by the approximately 70% biodiversity loss to date. To shift this paradigm, nature-based solutions must enter decision-making earlier, fully supported by science, new metrics, and growing financial recognition.

  4. Integrity Is The New Currency. Markets are demanding evidence, transparency, and robust governance over sheer volume. Globally, 733 organisations have committed to TNFD-aligned reporting and are putting pressure downstream; this represents $22.4 trillion in assets under management. Over and over, we heard the same rule: do not buy the story - buy the evidence.

  5. The Transition Is Ultimately Human. As artificial intelligence takes over technical tasks, emotional intelligence, integrity, and resilience are becoming the defining leadership qualities. Currently, 49% of Gen Zers and 44% of Millennials rely on personal ethics when choosing employers. A new generation of climate leaders is stepping up, and Asia is increasingly positioned to lead this global movement as a growing economic and political region.
