Conservation of Peatland and Prevention of Haze

Join us for an in-depth session on how the Pahang Peatland Restoration Project is conserving the largest remaining contiguous tropical peatland forest in Peninsular Malaysia. Explore how this flagship nature-based carbon credit project rehabilitates degraded peatlands by restoring hydrological and ecological functions—thereby improving carbon sequestration, supporting biodiversity, and mitigating the risks of peat fires and transboundary haze.

The Challenge of Jakun Indigenous People in the Conservation of Tropical Peatland Forest

In the misty heart of Pekan’s peat swamp forests, this storytelling workshop invites participants to see through the lens of the Jakun Indigenous people, where tradition meets the challenges of modern conservation. Through the Pahang Peatland Restoration Project (PPRP) and its Ranok Resilience (RANOK) initiatives, we explore how Indigenous wisdom and community resilience shape sustainable peatland management—ensuring that both people and forests thrive together.

Strengthening Climate Resilience: Are We Ready for a Hotter World? From Satellite Insights to Ground-Level Action in the Klang Valley

This session asks how prepared we are for urban heating in the Klang Valley? What can be done to maximise our ability to mitigate this?

To provide an evidence-based response to these important questions, The Habitat Foundation funded research by Think City to map the urban heat island effect in the Klang Valley. Using Land Surface Temperature data from satellite imaging covering a 30-year period, we now have compelling insights into specific patterns and trends. These will be released for the first time at AlterCOP30.

In this session we will explore how government agencies, NGOs, academics, urban planners, and city officials can work together to translate these insights to meaningful and impactful policies and actions.
